FGGL Reunion 2008

March 15, 2008
Dear Family Member:
I am very excited about our upcoming family reunion. As this years’ coordinator I have faced many challenges putting it all together.
Deciding on the location was a big issue. Some members appeared to not want to have the reunion in Florence. After many months of
looking into it and going back and forth, I decided to go with the decision that was made at the meeting prior to departing our last
reunion. With consideration, I have chosen Columbia, SC.
In making the decision to bring it back to our Matriarchs’ home front; there are some concerns. Some feel that some family members
will not be willing to attend because of the lack of things to do in the area. I have one question to all: What does family really mean to
you?
I am proud to say that we have one of the strongest families in America. We know from whence we’ve come and for the most part we
have a good handle on where we are going. We are second to none in regards to achievement, matter of fact; we set the margins for
others in our respected communities. There are a few things that contribute to our level of success. (1) Our irrefutable love for Christ
which was instilled by those that went on before us. (2) Our love for each other and (3) The tradition that has passed down from
generation to generation. I believe from the bottom of my heart that this is the passion that has kept us going for so many years. We
are a people of impact. Yes we positively impact our communities daily and it is this kind of influence that satan does not want to exist
in society. So he does what he can to put an end to it. A few years ago our family was pretty well dissipated and the tradition of us all
meeting together was almost history. Old man satan thought that he had stopped us, but we served notice to him and his kingdom
insomuch that we showed him that we cannot be divided and we will stay the course. We pulled the families back together and have
been growing stronger and stronger since.
So I appeal to our elders and fore-runners whom we respect so much, talk to your posterity. Express the importance of us staying
together as a family. Compel them to come even if they are just doing it for you. I appeal to my generation, talk to your cousins and
peer groups. Compel them to come because you will be there, it can and will be fun. (If we make it fun). Former coordinators, I
respectfully ask that you take responsibility for your immediate family. Get them to show up in record numbers. I don’t have everyone’s
phone numbers and addresses, so lets all hit the phones…..call the ones that we associate with more often the rest.
Though we have done a great job up to this point, I want us to make it a priority to get to know your family a lot better. As I stated
before, we are a successful and very resourceful group of people. With the love that we have for each other, I know that we are willing
to share those resources with our family. I feel that we do not know each other well enough to glean off of each others knowledge. So
this year we are putting great focus on relationship building. Have time to mingle and enjoy ourselves. FGGL we are huge. Though I’
ve been to many reunions, one of my most enjoyable was last year. I spent less time with the people that I see more often, and spent
more time with members of our extended families. I encourage everyone to try it and see how it will be for you this year.
I know this is a long letter. I just wanted share my heart with everyone. Your presence this year is diligently sought after. If you know of
someone who did not get a letter I ask that you get the letter to them or send them to the website. Until we meet again, I love you and
may God bless you. See you at the reunion!!
SIncerely,.
Willie "Sparky" Bamberg
