                      “Remember”

This word literally means; to recall something forgotten, or to keep
something in memory.  What does this word mean to you?  I will share
what this word means to me as a result of life experiences, observation
of others and biblical understanding.  What makes this message
controversial is that it attacks our very nature.  It is a natural tendency
to reminisce on the past or think on those things that have happened
before.  Most will argue that it is perfectly fine to take a glance at the
past or remember people or events from the past. Oh but I disagree to
the utmost. I believe that there is nothing in the past for you and me. I
believe that God desires for us to never look back into our past for our
own purposes. (Luke 9: 62) Looking back does one of two things, it
either causes us to bring our past hurts into our present, or it causes us
to be discontented with our present state. Either circumstance brings
instant destruction in our life (Gen 19:26).God intends for us to only
pay attention to our “NOW”……….now is the most important time to
us. Our past can plague us and have us reliving it all over again, if you
were hurt in the past…if you think on those things, you are now hurt
and “was” is no more, but “now”  is; even though that hurt may have
happened years ago. God desires for us to be contented with what ever
state we find ourselves in (Phil 4:11). When our “then” was good, or
better then our “now”, we find ourselves comparing what “was” with
what “is”. This causes us to take the wrong attitude toward our present
situation and resent what God is doing in our lives now and wish to go
back to what we lived then and God’s blessings of yesterday. God
desires to do a new thing with us. He intends for us to “Go” not
“Return”. We can never receive God’s best for our lives if we are
always looking back…….we will always encounter the wilderness.
God cannot enlarge our territory if we continue to tread upon familiar
or previous treaded soil.  He told Joshua, to go and every new place his
foot should tread upon would be his.  You see, the land they were
leaving was already somebody’s territory. We want to prosper but we
refuse to embrace what’s ahead, instead we just wander about in the
devil’s territory. Yes I said the devil’s territory……If God is always
telling us to “go”….and we continue to visit our past (in our thoughts)
we are in the devil’s territory. I would love to expound on this more,
but I do not want you to get tired of reading.  Let’s finish this in
discussion.
